Roof Installation Information for CeDUR Synthetic Roofing Products

Our synthetic roofing products are durable and easy to install for roofing contractors. CeDUR synthetic wood shakes install like natural cedar shakes, so if a roofing contractor has experience installing wood shakes, they can install our synthetic roofing shakes. No special tools, hardware or accessories are needed and CeDUR shakes can be cut, nailed, or screwed. A CeDUR synthetic roof installs like natural hand split heavy cedar shakes. There is no need for special accessories or special tools during the installation. CeDUR features just three product pieces: 1) CeDUR Starter, 2) CeDUR Field material, and 3) CeDUR Hip and Ridge material.

CeDUR is light weight at just 170 pounds per square (1 square = 100 square feet on your roof). CeDUR synthetic shakes are lighter than wood, clay tiles, recycled rubber, and other composite synthetic roofing materials. This allows for easy installation for a roofing contractor at the roof's hips, valley's, gables, eaves, and rake edges as you can score and cut the CeDUR product with a utility knife or skill saw. CeDUR synthetic roofing products do not require a special batten system during installation or the need for costly structural weight modifications or special reinforcement to the roof structure. CeDUR is Class 4 Impact Rated, UL 2218 impact rating (the highest impact resistance available), and CeDUR is resistant to scratching, scuffing and hail damage. CeDUR is also Class A Fire Rated, ASTM E108 (the highest fire resistance available), without the need of a special fire-resistant underlayment during installation. For a roofing contractor, this means they can easily install and maneuver the CeDUR product, and this helps ensure a superior installation. Unlike other roofing products that may require a batten system prior to roof installation, CeDUR installs direct to the roof deck and no special tools or hardware are required during installation.

Easy Installation for Roofing Contractors

CeDUR is one of the lightest roofing products available for purchase. Our light weight product composition makes our synthetic roofing products easy for roofing contractors to handle and install. This allows for easy installation on a roof’s valleys, eaves, gables, rakes, and hips because the CeDUR product can be easily cut and scored using a utility knife or skill saw to fit into tight and unique spaces on a roof without sacrificing appearance. CeDUR synthetic shakes require no sealing or treatment to cut edges due to their closed cell structure which permits no significant water absorption.

A CeDUR synthetic roof is installed like natural hand split heavy cedar shakes. There is no need for special accessories or special tools during the roof installation. CeDUR features just three product pieces: 1) CeDUR Starter, 2) CeDUR Field material, and 3) CeDUR Hip and Ridge material. Straight Course CeDUR Roof Installation

A straight course CeDUR roof installation provides a more uniform wood appearance. This is when CeDUR shake courses are aligned straight across the roof horizontally. A 10 inch (254 mm) weather exposure for straight course installations is standard with 3/8” inch keyways. A 10” (254 mm) weather exposure for straight-line installations is standard, and has been used for all calculations, testing and certifications.

Staggered CeDUR Walden roof installation

Staggered Course CeDUR Roof Installation

A staggered course installation provides a more natural and rustic wood shake look. When 1 inch staggered installation is used, shake exposure is laid at 9 inch (229 mm) exposure and random shakes are at 10 inch (254 mm) exposure or 1 inch (25.4 +/-) stagger. The maximum recommended stagger is 2 inches (8 inch exposure) with 3/8” inch keyways. More CeDUR material is needed for a staggered installation. The maximum recommended stagger is 2 inches with 3/8” inch keyways.

Please note: Chalk lines should be snapped on the underlayment with the tips of the shakes following the lines. Do not snap lines on the CeDUR shakes or use red chalk as the chalk may permanently discolor the shakes. Material pallets should not be stacked more than two pallets high. During roof installation, please ensure proper keyway spacing between shakes and proper course alignment. Keyways should not line up vertically from course to course. More information is below.
