CeDUR Walden Synthetic Roofing Products

A CeDUR Walden roof provides the most authentic wood shake look that complements most architectural styles and color schemes. CeDUR Walden roofs provide a stunningly beautiful chocolate brown appearance and perfectly replicate the wood look of heavy hand split natural cedar shakes. If you want a roof that will stand the test of time and look great doing so, look no further than CeDUR Walden.

A CeDUR synthetic roof combines the desirable cedar shake look with the latest in design and technology. All CeDUR synthetic shakes are solid throughout with no cavity back and molded from natural cedar shakes. CeDUR synthetic shakes are manufactured in three multi-width sizes, 5 1/4” shakes, 7 1/4” shakes, and 12 1/4” shakes. CeDUR synthetic shakes will, by design, shift color upon exposure to the Sun. This color change takes place gradually over the first 90 days of installation (depending on time and intensity of Sun exposure) and then stabilizes at a weathered wood color for the life of the product. Our synthetic roofing products do not incorporate UV inhibitors or UV stabilizers and your roof will age naturally with the Sun. Natural movement is designed into our product to give your roof the most authentic wood shake appearance.

  • Wood shake roofs are known to retain moisture. Mold and mildew grow best in moist environments and a wood shake roof requires routine maintenance to avoid mold and mildew build up. Once mold or mildew set in and additional moisture is retained, water damage, rot, and roof leaking can potentially occur. CeDUR synthetic roofing products feature a solid core with no cavity back. This allows for easy installation on a roof’s valleys, eaves, gables, rakes, and hips because the CeDUR product can be easily cut and scored using a utility knife or skill saw to fit into tight and unique spaces on your roof without sacrificing appearance. CeDUR synthetic shakes are resistant to rot, moss, water absorption and insects. The polyurethane product composition of CeDUR provides installers with stability and uniformity at cuts and is resistant to water absorption.

Wood shakes are naturally flammable and untreated wood shakes can be ignited by firebrands, exposure to fire, or traveling embers from a nearby fire. CeDUR Walden shakes are fire-resistant and stand-alone Class A Fire Rated - ASTM E108.

Wood roofs provide thermal insulation properties. CeDUR Walden roofs also provide insulation benefits and are rated at an insulation value of R > 2.0 R factor (approximately 20% greater than heavy wood shakes).

If energy efficiency is important for you and your home environment, then CeDUR shakes are worth a look. The insulation properties of a CeDUR roof can help keep your home warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.

  • A CeDUR Walden roof makes it possible to keep the intended architectural wood shake look of historic structures while meeting modern day performance requirements. CeDUR Walden roofs provide extreme fire resistance and durability. Walden products feature Class A fire resistance, Class 4 impact resistance and certified wind resistance up to 115 miles per hour. CeDUR Walden shakes are light weight at just 170 pounds per roofing square, and Walden is trusted by historians, preservationists, and historical preservation societies across the United States. As a pioneer of polyurethane roofing materials since 1998, CeDUR has been a reliable roofing material for government projects, religious facilities, and educational buildings.

CeDUR Walden roofing products replicate the authentic wood look of heavy hand split natural cedar shakes. Alternative roofing products and other synthetic roofing products attempt to replicate the wood shake look, but other roofing products can have an un-natural shiny plastic look and plastic sheen appearance in direct sunlight. CeDUR shakes are designed and engineered to reproduce the rustic natural wood look with the latest in design and technology.

Wood is a timeless look that pairs with most home styles and color schemes. Whether you have a coastal, modern, traditional, cottage, southwestern, colonial, Victorian or contemporary style home, you can trust that CeDUR shakes will complement the architectural integrity and style of your home.

  • CeDUR Walden shakes are molded from natural cedar shakes and emulate the beautiful rustic wood appearance of heavy hand split natural cedar shakes. Just like heavy hand split natural cedar shakes, CeDUR Walden synthetic roofing shakes feature a thick 3/4" inch butt end.

CeDUR Synthetic Roofing Products are manufactured in 50+ unique molds to create the most beautiful natural wood shake appearance. • CeDUR is one of the lightest roofing products available for purchase. CeDUR is just 170 pounds per square (1 square = 100 square feet on roof). This makes our synthetic roofing products easy for roofing contractors to handle and install. Our synthetic cedar shake roof products do not require a special batten system during installation or the need for costly structural weight modifications or special reinforcement to the roof structure. CeDUR installs direct to the roof deck and no special tools or hardware are required during installation. Our lightweight synthetic cedar shakes can be installed in any climate or environment and can help improve the curb appeal and property value of your home.

  • Natural cedar shake shingles come in one of two color varieties, red cedar and white cedar. At CeDUR, we do not manufacture unrealistic color options or a variety of color choices and custom color options. Instead, we manufacture 4 color options in 3 widths that replicate the authentic wood look of natural cedar shakes that you have grown so accustomed to loving.

Our state-of-the-art polyurethane manufacturing process allows us to create incredibly authentic and realistic color options with unique grain patterns and genuine wood tones, textures, depth and hues. CeDUR is engineered to replicate the authentic beauty of natural cedar shakes and complement the architectural integrity of your home.

  • A CeDUR synthetic roof installs like natural hand split heavy cedar shakes. CeDUR features just three product pieces: 1) CeDUR starter 2) CeDUR field material and 3) CeDUR hip/ridge material. There is no need for special accessories or special tools during the CeDUR roof installation. This allows for easy installation on a roof’s valleys, eaves, gable, rake, and hips because the CeDUR product can be easily cut and scored using a utility knife or skill saw to fit into tight and unique spaces on your roof without sacrificing appearance.

CeDUR synthetic shakes can be installed in straight courses or staggered courses. A straight course installation offers a more uniform roof appearance while a staggered course installation provides a very natural and rustic wood look.

When 1-inch staggered installation is used, shake exposure is laid at 9 inch (229 mm) exposure and random shakes are at 10 inch (254 mm) exposure. More CeDUR material is needed for a staggered installation. The maximum recommended stagger is 2 inches with 3/8” inch keyways.

CeDUR Synthetic Roofing Products and Sizing:

Please note: Chalk lines should be snapped on the underlayment with the tips of the shakes following the lines. Do not snap lines on the CeDUR shakes or use red chalk as the chalk may permanently discolor the shakes. Material pallets should not be stacked more than two pallets high. During roof installation, please ensure proper keyway spacing between shakes and proper course alignment. Keyways should not line up vertically from course to course. More information is below.
