The Authentic Wood Shake Look of Heavy Hand Split Natural Cedar Shakes

The most desirable and beautiful look in roofing is the look of a heavy hand split natural cedar wood shake roof. A natural cedar wood shake roof complements almost any architectural design style and color scheme. Just like natural cedar shakes, a CeDUR synthetic roof compliments a home and its natural surroundings and provides a warm welcoming wood shake appearance with unsurpassed curb appeal. A CeDUR roof gives your home classic wood shake beauty without the constant maintenance and headaches inherent in traditional roofing materials and natural wood shake shingles.

At CeDUR we have combined the desirable cedar wood shake look with the latest in design and technology. To match the natural beauty and rustic wood shake look of cedar shakes, CeDUR Synthetic Shakes are molded from heavy hand split natural cedar shakes. Our state-of-the-art polyurethane manufacturing process allows us to create incredibly authentic and realistic synthetic roofing products with unique wood grain patterns and genuine wood tones, textures, depth, and hues. A CeDUR synthetic roof provides the same depth, dimension, grain patterns, and thickness of a heavy hand split natural cedar shake roof. Natural movement is designed into our product to give your roof the natural cedar shake appearance. Just like heavy hand split natural cedar shakes, CeDUR shakes feature a thick 3/4” inch butt end and are manufactured in 3 sizes - 5 1/4” shakes, 7 1/4” shakes and 12 1/4” shakes. CeDUR can be installed in straight courses or staggered courses and CeDUR shakes can be installed in most any climate or environment. A straight course CeDUR roof installation provides a uniform wood shake look, while a staggered course CeDUR roof installation provides a rustic and natural wood shake look. This gives CeDUR unquestionable wood shake beauty and makes CeDUR synthetic shakes indistinguishable from heavy hand split natural cedar shakes.

Real Wood Shake Colors

You will not find natural cedar shakes or wood shake shingles in a variety of color options, and at CeDUR we replicated that. At CeDUR we manufacture 4 product colors, Live Oak, Golden Cedar, Shiloh, and Walden. CeDUR synthetic shakes will, by design, shift color upon exposure to the Sun. This color change takes place gradually over the first 90 days of installation (depending on time and intensity of Sun exposure) and then stabilizes at a weathered wood color for the life of the product. Unlike other roofing manufacturers, CeDUR synthetic shakes do not incorporate UV stabilizers or UV inhibitors. Instead, just like natural cedar shakes, CeDUR ages naturally with the Suns UV light. Natural cedar shakes are mostly available in 3 options - Western Red Cedar, Alaskan Yellow Cedar, and Eastern White Cedar. Depending on your location, cedar shakes may weather to tan, brown, red, and gray shades of color. At CeDUR, we manufacture 4 beautiful synthetic wood shake roof colors that replicate the authentic wood shake look of heavy hand split natural cedar shakes. A CeDUR synthetic roof provides beautiful depth, dimension, thickness, texture, and deep grain patterns that you expect from the most realistic imitation shake.

CeDUR Live Oak

Live Oak is reminiscent of a brand new traditional hand split cedar shake roof. CeDUR Live Oak features a fresh cut cedar shake appearance and is designed to look like traditional hand split cedar shakes. Live Oak roofs compliment darker tones very well, including tan, brown, dark gray and brick.

CeDUR Shiloh

Shiloh is our darkest color and captures the authentic wood appearance of aged cedar shake that has endured a bit of natural sea moisture. The charcoal gray description is an accurate color description for this beautiful product. Shiloh roofs compliments lighter tones very well, especially whites, light grays, and blues.

CeDUR Golden Cedar

Golden Cedar is a Cool Roof Rated Product, making it acceptable for use in Los Angeles County California. A Cool Roof is one that strongly reflects sunlight and cools itself by efficiently emitting UV light back to its surroundings. Golden Cedar is similar in appearance to CeDUR Live Oak.

CeDUR Walden

Walden is reminiscent of a 10-15 year old wood shake, Chocolate Brown is an accurate description of it's appearance. Walden is darker than Live Oak and is our most popular color choice. Walden roofs give any property an authentic wood look that compliments many architectural styles and color schemes.

We were talking about how much it resembles an actual cedar shake roof and from a distance it is hard to distinguish any differences.

Beautiful Wood Shake Look for Historic Roofing Projects and Homeowners Associations

As a pioneer of polyurethane roofing materials since 1998, CeDUR has been a reliable synthetic roofing material for government projects, HOAs, religious facilities, and educational buildings. Traditional roofing materials like wood shake shingles or asphalt shingles are a liability during severe weather because they may not adequately protect the building from nature’s harsh elements, and they can have a shortened life cycle. When re-roofing a historic structure the roofing weight of the new roof must not be overlooked. CeDUR synthetic wood shakes are light weight at just 170 pounds per square and provide the most beautiful wood shake look in a durable synthetic roofing material that may not require structural weight modifications prior to installation. CeDUR shakes offer a long-term roofing solution while enhancing a property’s curb appeal and more importantly restoring the intended architectural design and style of a historical landmark, historic property, or HOA neighborhood. CeDUR synthetic wood shakes are trusted by historians, preservationists, and historical preservation societies across the United States.

At CeDUR we understand that replacing or repairing older roofs can be difficult and costly. Traditional roofing materials found on aged properties no longer meet modern safety or building codes. In fact, the use of wood shake shingles in new roof installations is banned in many high-risk fire zones and mountain communities throughout the United States. CeDUR synthetic shakes are UL 2218 Class A fire-resistant and CeDUR shakes make it possible to match the original and intended wood shake look of a historical property while providing modern day roofing performance characteristics.

Solid Core - Just Like Natural Cedar Shakes

Just like hand split natural cedar shakes, CeDUR synthetic roofing shakes are solid throughout and do not feature a cavity back or hollow back side. CeDUR is not a hollow back or cavity back synthetic roofing product, so on the back side of the product you will not notice a waffle like structure. Instead, CeDUR synthetic shakes have a solid core with color through pigmentation and CeDUR shakes are solid from top to bottom and front to back. CeDUR synthetic shakes are colored throughout for stability and uniformity at cuts. Our proprietary polyurethane manufacturing process allows CeDUR shakes to be solid throughout and extremely light weight and durable.

Our color through pigmentation allows color to permeate all the way through the product instead of being applied to just the surface of the product. This allows for easy installation on a roof’s valleys, eaves, gables, rakes, and hips because the CeDUR product can be easily cut and scored using a utility knife to fit into tight or unique spaces on your roof without sacrificing appearance. The cut end of a CeDUR synthetic shake is weather resistant and will not absorb water. A solid core product composition provides roof insulation value. CeDUR synthetic shakes are rated at an insulation value of R > 2.0 R factor (approximately 20% greater than natural heavy cedar shakes). This provides added roof insulation value and can help make your home warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.

Deep Grain Patterns with a 3/4” inch Thick Butt End

To match the natural beauty and rustic wood shake look, CeDUR synthetic shakes are molded from heavy hand split natural cedar shakes. Just like heavy hand split natural cedar shakes, CeDUR Synthetic Shakes feature a thick 3/4” inch butt end. Our synthetic cedar shakes feature a beautiful 3/4” inch thick butt end that truly captures the authentic wood shake look and provides stunning curb appeal and beautiful shadow lines.

CeDUR’s deep grain patterns provide incredible depth, texture, and realism, and make CeDUR indistinguishable from heavy hand split natural cedar shakes. Our polyurethane manufacturing process allows us to create incredibly authentic and realistic synthetic roofing products with unique grain patterns and genuine wood tones, textures, and depth. While other synthetic roofing products claim to offer the real wood shake look, none can match the authentic wood beauty of CeDUR synthetic roofing products. Other roofing products that attempt to look like natural cedar shakes are simply unauthentic and can have a sheen look and shiny appearance in direct sunlight. A CeDUR roof gives any home classic wood shake beauty without the constant maintenance and headaches inherent in traditional roofing materials like natural wood shake shingles.

The Desirable Wood Shake Look with Fire-Resistant Synthetic Roofing

A CeDUR synthetic roof combines the desirable wood shake look with the latest in design and technology. Not only are CeDUR synthetic shakes indistinguishable from natural cedar shakes, but they provide extreme fire resistance. CeDUR synthetic shakes are fire-resistant and stand-alone Class A Fire Rated. Many roofing products feature a Class A Fire Rating, but you must use a special underlayment system during installation to achieve the Class A Fire Rating. The CeDUR product itself is Class A Fire Rated - without the need of a special fire-resistant underlayment.

Due to wildfire concerns many mountain towns, mountain resort communities, and structures located in WUI zones have banned the use of wood shake shingle roofs. Many local jurisdictions prohibit the use of wood shake shingles in new construction projects altogether. Wood is extremely flammable and when a wildfire occurs there is great concern with the spread of hot embers and ash that can travel for miles. It is important to reduce the risk of those hot embers or ash from landing on a combustible wood shake shingle roof and causing a fire or increasing risk to other nearby structures. CeDUR offers a reliable synthetic roofing product that looks just like wood shakes and is fire-resistant and stand-alone Class A Fire Rated. In the event of a fire, CeDUR synthetic shakes extinguish flame spread and do not allow a flame to propagate on the surface of the product.

Did You Know?

That natural cedar shakes ignite at around 375 degrees Fahrenheit. The temperature on our CeDUR Class A certified burning brand test reached temperatures as high as 1,400 degrees Fahrenheit and CeDUR composite roofing tiles did not reach ignition. Click here to view our CeDUR Class A Fire-Resistant Burning Brand test on YouTube.

In the event of a wildfire, flames spread from roof to roof, with embers from the fire being a major cause of traveling fire damage. Using a roofing product that extinguishes in the event of a fire has the potential to save properties and save lives. In terms of installation, you can lay CeDUR shakes down on top of 30 pound felt and you have a Class A Fire Rated roofing system.

This fire-resistant technology is patented and proprietary to CeDUR.
